Officer Pekrol |
Croissant Park Civic Association
Hi Croissant Park Neighbors,
—Our February 25th meeting was attended by Board members Michelle, Rhonda, Jodi, Heather, Joe, and Virginia. Michelle led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
FLPD Officer Pekrol told us he had no crimes to report for this period! We discussed the removal of the City bus bench at CVS on Federal Hwy and 17th Street, due to the abundance of vagrants hanging out there every day, making it impossible for anyone to use the bench and area to wait for the bus. This is the City’s latest effort to discourage loitering in various parts of Fort Lauderdale. They have also made the area behind the cigar store at SR-84 and Federal undesirable for vagrants by installing landscaping and 24/7 lighting. The areas around Broward General Hospital are most vulnerable because when homeless/vagrant folks are discharged they often stay in the vicinity of Poinciana Park. According to Ofc. Petrol the difference between a vagrant and a homeless person is usually a matter of choice. The homeless do not choose to be homeless and vagrants choose that lifestyle. Interesting interpretation.

Randall Lisk |
Our speaker tonight was Randall Lisk with the Museum of Discovery and Science. Randall is recruiting volunteers to work in the museum in various departments. The bulk of his volunteer pool is the high school students who are required to fulfill 40 hours of volunteering from 9th grade to 12th grade in order to get their diploma. In addition to the students, he encourages adults to work as an usher in the IMAX theater or at the gift shop, and as a greeter for the Moving Discovery after Dark (MODS.org) on Friday evenings. Volunteers who complete the required number of hours will receive a Manatee level membership to the museum worth $130/year. To apply to volunteer email the Volunteer Coordinator at modsvolapp@mods.net
