Pet Waste Signage Program

Attached is a proposal for a pest waste signage program sponsored by the City. Please note that the requirements of the program mandate that any request for signs go through the Civic Association- and that there is a cost of $120 per sign. The Association does not currently have sufficient discretionary funds to consider this on a neighborhood wide basis, but individual homeowners who would like to be considered for a sign on THEIR property - and who are willing to advance the costs, are welcome to submit a request.

Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue has helped a lot of people, saved a lot of lives, placed a lot of great dogs & cats in wonderful homes…

and has accomplished some pretty incredible rescues.

Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue rescues neglected, surrendered, abandoned and abused animals in South Florida.

Unfortunately, our medical bills and supplies (even though discounted…) are not free and we need to continue to raise money to continue our work.

To save a life or a relationship, we’ve arranged for open heart surgeries, amputations, successful treatment for parvo, cherry eye, eye removal, broken bones, fractured hips, crushed pelvises, hip surgery – you name it. We’ve done it and have spayed, neutered and micro-chipped every animal that has crossed our path!

Winnie, beaten and shoved down a drain – the crushed leg had to be amputated. Success – adopted and living happily in Plantation.

Emma, a 2 month old Shih-Tzu, diagnosed with parvo – Success –adopted and is living in New York!

Gus, a 4 lb. T-cup Chihuahua, about 11 years old - dumped & found wandering the streets. Adopted: We did a complete senior profile, a major dental, a neuter and is now living happily in Victoria Park.

Millie, a 5 month old Wheaton Terrier, diagnosed with a defective heart valve – successful surgery – adopted and now living happily in her new home.

The list goes on and on and is too numerous to mention…

And through fundraising events, donations from people who believe in what we do---, yard sales and bake sales, we have always managed to cover the vet bills. But… our debt is pretty steep right now and our ability to help the next animal depends on us being able to help the ones we have in our care right now.

We have a couple fundraising events in the hopper - (Save the date for Saturday, October 23^rd – Central Bark Doggy Day Care – it’s our 2^nd Annual Howl-o-ween Pet Costume Party)- this & other events will be posted on the main page of our website. www.gratefulpaws.org

Cucumber Cures

Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need
every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin
B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin

The Public Information Office makes every attempt to ensure accuracy; however, due to the fluid nature of road closures, this information is subject to change. Information Regarding Street Closures in the City of Fort Lauderdale >> One northbound lane in HENRY E. KINNEY TUNNEL will be closed Tuesday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. One southbound lane will be closed Wednesday night, Oct. 13, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. >> S.E. 17th Street Causeway in southeast Fort Lauderdale will have one lane closed IN EACH DIRECTION in the area of Cordova Road along with the WESTBOUND left-turn lane to Cordova SOUTHBOUND into Harbor Shops from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. >> The NE 56th Street Bridge at NE 14th Avenue will be closed for repairs for a minimum of 21 days beginning October 11. >> One eastbound lane of SUNRISE BOULEVARD BRIDGE will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon and one westbound lane will be closed from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11. Please remember to slow down in construction areas and always buckle up, drive carefully and arrive safely.

Winterfest Boat Parade

To the Homeowner Associations,

We are nearly two months away from the 2010 Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade scheduled for December 11, 2010 at 6:30pm. Winterfest would like to see all homeowners team up with their neighbors to secure a boat, decorate it, fill it with festive passengers, and enter it in this year's boat parade ! Entering the parade is much simpler than most people think. Winterfest is here to help you along the way. We can help you with decorating tips, charter suggestions, parade procedures, etc..

We are also excited about implementing a new program into this year's parade. This year we are encouraging every boat entry to represent a charity of their choice. This concept is actively embraced by the local non-profit community and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, the main event sponsor. We anticipate dynamic parade participation by some of the area's most prominent charities in this year's parade!

This charity participation can be accomplished in one of several forms:

A. Our preferred option involves a charity working with the boating community to secure a boat entry . This evolves from the charity's initiative. The charity can ask a friend or associate to host their charity on their boat or charter their own boat. The charity can help decorate the boat, create the signage, and staff the boat with their own passengers thereby creating a fundraising opportunity. Winterfest is researching a number of cost effective boat charter opportunities to help charities accomplish this option. A private boat entry hosting a non-profit will only be charged a $35 entry fee.

B. Another option involves a charity's banner or sign being displayed on each side of a boat owned by an existing parade entry. This option is at the discretion and preference of the boat owner. Winterfest will ask existing boat parade entries if they would like to represent a charity on their boat with signage. This will not be a parade requirement but if they are receptive, we will give them the option to choose their own charity.

C. Finally, on occasion a special showboat parade entry may present to Winterfest a fundraiser opportunity on their boat. This would allow a charity to charge a designated number of passengers a fee to ride the showboat during the parade. One example of a showboat hosting a charity committed for this year's parade is the WSVN showboat hosting Habitat For Humanity.

Meeting of the Croissant Park Civic Association General MembershipSeptember 28, 2010, 7:00 p.m. in the Community Center

Present: Steve Cook, John McNamara, Loren Colburn,

Karla Carlson, Randy Drummond, Rhonda Kramer

Absent: Pat Rathburn, Heather Cunnif, Joy Stafford

The meeting was called to order by Vice President, Steve Cook at 7:00 p.m. John lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Steve introduced our first guest, Broward county public works department division of highway and bridge maintenance division representative Mr. John O. Besley 954-974-4100 jbesley@broward.org. Mr. Besley presented drawings to

show the work that is in progress on SW 4th Avenue. The plans indicated where the new curbs and bike lanes would be and new striping that would take out one lane of traffic reducing the East side of 4th to two lanes. There will be a couple of trees removed near 12th Ct because they are in jeopardy of falling

due to root problems. A question and answer session followed his presentation.

Steve then introduced our 2nd guest, Anthony Fajardo from the Fort Lauderdale Planning & Zoning Dept. Mr Fajardo gave a power point presentation on the South Andrews Master Plan progress. This plan can be found on-line at http://info.ci.ftlaud.fl.us/planning_zoning/pdf/srac/draftsrac-sa.pdf Be for-warned that it is better understood with the presentation and ability to ask questions. For those of you who are not familiar with this plan, it started about seven years ago and includes a total revitalization of Andrews Avenue with the boundaries being Tarpon River to the north, SR84 to the south, Federal Hwy to the east and the FEC railroad to the west. The idea is to make the area a pedestrian friendly destination with a mix of business and residential uses. This will have a huge impact (hopefully good) on Croissant Park in the future and everyone should be watching how it progresses.

Topics that were covered included: parking, hotels, restaurants, 475 residential units, sidewalks, possible 'Wave' or passenger

trains (replacing the freight trains), proposed zoning changes, and more.

Our Vice-Mayor/Commissioner Romney Rogers was also on hand to comment and answer questions from the membership. It was a meeting that everyone should have attended for the wealth of information.

A slate of nominees for the 2011 Board of the Croissant Park Civic Association was presented and the preliminary nominees are:

We have several openings for the board and hope to have more nominees by the October meeting. If you have suggestions, send them in.

Rhonda and Karla met with Lisa from the Community Center to coordinate this year's Halloween Party. Last year's event was a huge success and depended largely on donations from the membership. If you would like to contribute candy or cash to help make this year another big hit for the kids, you can bring them to the next meeting on October 26th, or better yet, drop your donation to Rhonda Kramer at 712 SW 14 Street (954-764-7035). Thanks in advance for your support of this fun event for our neighborhood. We will also be cooking hot dogs and serving drinks if you would like to volunteer to help out.
