Vice Mayor Rogers Newsletter

Text Box: Summer is flying by and soon the school buses will be rolling again! I hope everyone has had some relaxation and fun along the way. My family and I visited San Antonio’s Riverwalk and the nearby Schlitterbahn Waterpark (photo at left) in New Braunfels, TX (http://www.schlitterbahn.com/nb/). You may recall we asked the city attorney to move forward with negotiations with this company in an effort to redevelop Fort Lauderdale Stadium into a waterpark, while preserving the stadium. I’ll keep you posted as the project develops.

City Manager: Many of you know that former City Manager George Gretsas’s contract expired at the end of July. On July 7th, the Commission selected Assistant City Manager Allyson Love as Acting City Manager for the interim until our meeting on August 17th. The Commission will be discussing what process to employ to choose our next city manager, so stay tuned.

Budget: On September 7th and 21st, at 6:00 p.m. in Commission Chambers at City Hall, the city will hold public hearings on the proposed 2010-2011 Budget and Capital Improvement Plan, available at http://www.fortlauderdale.gov/2011Budget_Book/10-11budget.htm. Please come out and let us have your input.

Built in 1922 at the intersection of SW 7th Street and Andrews Avenue, the school is slated to become an arts and cultural center with additional uses, thanks to successful grant applications. The contract for interior renovations is scheduled to be awarded in September.

First Presbyterian Church: On July 21st, the Planning & Zoning Board approved the rezoning application of First Presbyterian Church. Staff has advised the matter is scheduled to come before the Commission in September.
