Pit Bull Attack

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
A neighbor reported being attacked by a female, grey & white Pit Bull dog while she was walking her dog on a leash. The Pit Bull bit the woman's dog and knocked her to the ground. Some men came to her assistance and pulled the dog away. She called the police and was told to call animal control - they were closed.

A man on a bike came by and said he knew who the dog belonged to, it had been loose for 3-4 days and asked her not to call the police. He put his belt around the dog's neck to take him to his home around 21 St & 3rd Terrace (sounds way too close to the tot-lot at Peney Park).

This woman was deservedly upset by this attack and wants her neighbors to be aware of this aggressive animal that apparently does not have responsible owners.

There are certainly some sweet Pit Bulls in this world - at least that is what we keep hearing from their owners - this is not one of them. Be on the lookout and don't hesitate to call the Police or animal control if you see it on the loose again. Better to keep calling to report than wait for the animal to hurt someone else. 1. I live in Tarpon River a neighboring community. My next door neighbors cat was savagely killed by 2 loose pit bull/mix dogs. I ended up catching one of the dogs and called 911. I then called animal control. The owners wanted the dog from me but I told them the dog was being held by me till police came. This seemed to be the exact thing you are suppose to do. They held the dog until animal control came and they made sure they came, which was an hour and a half after the incident. The police only took a couple minutes. Now remember I called 911 which is a WAY better response than calling the police station and arguing with them. It just so happens that once the dogs go back to the owners the animal control cannot take the dog and if the owners wanted the dog I kept they had to pay a fine immediately to get it back. Which did not happen. They were cited and fined for the other dog and the dog has to be quarantined in their home. They have to pay the fine for the other dog at some point but probably won't be able to come up with it. This has to be pursued with animal control so they are cited and there is record with the police and accounted for. When I went out to look for the dogs I took extra leash, pepper spray and a stick. I am an animal trainer however and would never expect anyone to go out and do this. Fortunately the dog I caught was not dangerous towards people.
